Have you ever boiled, steamed or blanched asparagus?  Did you have a heck of a time fishing it out of the hot water?  You know, those thick rubber bands that come around bunches of asparagus are actually boil-proof. you can just leave it bound up, drop it in the boiling water, and use your kitchen tongs  to pick the whole bunch up and, in the case of blanching, drop it in the icy water you have waiting! That's right, you heard me!  Put a lid on it. Did you know that putting a lid on a pot of water, soup, sauce, etc.  actually helps it come to a boil faster?  It's true.  Just think about it... heat rises, right?  And pressure decreases the amount of heat needed to boil something... So putting a lid on that liquid you are trying to bring to the boil makes it all happen faster and easier.   Just another great tip from us here at FastAndEasy-Recipes.com
